through that today as much as 9 degrees above average in santa rosa, 63 in san francisco and 66 degrees and sunny in san jose. more on your weather coming up. right now let's check on the roads with elizabeth. >> we have been following a big rig accidents for three hours northbound 101 coming into sunnyvale. traffic, if chopper 5 can zoom back, is stacked up into santa clara. the backups continue to grow. two lanes are blocked, blocked since about 2:50 a.m. that's when that accident first was reported. the problem is, there was some damage to the guardrail. 30 gallons of fuel spilled right there approaching that fair oaks avenue exit. wood debris all over. so there's a lot of clean-up going on. no major injuries but again that is what it looks like if you are behind this mess on 101 so don't get caught in this. use 280 free and clear right now. highway 85. also caltrain another great option and so far everything is rolling along all trains on time. let get a quick look at the bay bridge toll plaza. no metering lights yet. this is just your usual pa
's five degrees above normal and 62 degrees in san francisco. i think that weather is going to hold through the weekend. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> thanks, lawrence. and outside right now, this is our problem spot. it's in san mateo county. if you are traveling southbound 280 right around vista point or a little past highway 92, there's an accident involving several deer. they were maybe doing a traffic break in the area. they are working to clear it now. so southbound 280 may be a little slow once you get past 92 through san mateo county. here's a live look outside. 880 the nimitz. looks great. they should have wrapped up some overnight roadwork in lanes. northbound 880 between 66 and the maze, golden gate bridge never was a problem so far this morning. dumbarton bridge roadwork on eastbound 84 has been picked up now that it's past 6:00. mass transit all on time. and a quick live look at the bay bridge, where things look different this morning than at this time yesterday. no metering lights, and the delays are very minimal. so yo
the waterfront in san francisco. they jammed the embarcadero as midnight approached. when it was all over the cars jammed the streets in the area. >>> cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in san francisco where three revelers were wounded in shootings during the festivities. cate. >> reporter: good morning, grace. yes, police will be starting the new year looking for two suspects in two different shootings that injured three people. the first one was at around 10:40 last night. a victim was taken to the hospital after being shot in the hand. the suspect was described as an adult male. the shooting took place near fisherman's wharf at jefferson and mason. less than an hour later a 12- year-old boy and man were shot near pier 23. the boy was hit in the foot and a man got a graze wound to the hip. police say all victims suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and so far no arrests have been made. aside from those two incidents, it was clear skies and bright lights for partiers. tens of thousands rang in the new year in a safe and festive way. >> 2012 was a good year. it was awesome. the giants got

at an apartment building in san francisco. it was reported around 2:45 on oakland near oakstreet and octavia. nobody was hurt. >>> police will release more information on an armed robbery in palo alto on ramona street around 9 p.m. details are scarce. police haven't said anything about the suspect, victim, what was stolen or the weapon used. they are asking anyone with information tow contact them. >>> in other headlines around the bay, bart police have identified the man shot and killed at the bay fair station in san leandro on saturday. 50-year-old kenneth seats of fremont died from his injuries. a second person was shot. that person is expected to survive. one arrest has been made in the shooting. investigators are looking for more suspects. >>> finding the suspects in a violent takeover style home invasion robbery in san jose is a top priority for san jose police. three or four men burst into the almaden valley home on monday night, tied up the couple in their 70s and ransacked the home and stole two cars. >>> we are going to switch gears and talk we

descriptions of the robbers. live from san francisco's richmond district, anne makovec, cbs 5. >> thank you. >>> family and friends are looking for a petaluma woman this morning who went missing at a south lake tahoe dance event. deputies are searching for 19- year-old elissa burn. they say she was last seen at the horizon casino on new year's eve on south shore. she was attending the snow globe music festival there. according to the police her cell phone was last used just before midnight. >>> and prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty or life without parole in a south bay murder case. one suspect had bail denied yesterday. businessman ravi kumra was killed in his monte sereno home in november. three men and a woman now under arrest in the case. authorities are still withholding details of the case. the three men are expected back in court again tomorrow. >>> a clue in the case of a dog killed in a san francisco robbery. police say the man seen running away in this grainy surveillance video last friday had just mugged a woman and threw her dog into oncoming traffic. the owner says she
to figure out what happened on san francisco bay. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is on treasure island with some new information about the man in control of the ship that hit the bay bridge yesterday morning. >> reporter: good morning. that pilot is in the hot seat today as that tanker you can see behind me is staying put as the coast guard continues its investigation. this morning that pilot will be face to face with investigators pending the results of a drug test. that tanker was on the way to sea when did hit a fender at the bridge around 6:30 yesterday afternoon. visibility as a quarter mile with fog. no signs of a spill, everybody was safe. caltrans engineers responded but found no significant damage to the bay bridge. >> this is just a scrape to the bridge. >> reporter: the fender acted like a bumper and caltrans says they will replace 40 feet of it but the question is, how did this happen in the first place? coast guard will be meeting with the pilot in a few hours. the "san jose mercury news" identifies him as guy kleess of san francisco.
is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a woman in her apartment here in san francisco. police say 25-year-old javon jones of marin city barged into the apartment on telegraph hill as the 26-year-old came home saturday night. jones allegedly demanded money, forced her onto the floor. police arrested him in a backyard on green street and charged with robbery, race and false imprisonment. >>> thousands attended a gun show at the cow palace over the weekend. many showed up because of possible stricter gun and ammunition laws. california already has the toughest gun laws in the nation. the owner of the show says tougher laws hurt his bottom line. >> it's cumbersome. i certainly wouldn't endorse it because it is more difficult to do business. >> no one was able to walk away with a new gun from the show. in california, there's a ten- day waiting period and a rigorous background check. >>> meanwhile, the head of the nra says it's unlikely congress will pass a new ban on assault weapons. david keene talked about gun control on cnn. he says other things

in the bay area now, 6:09, san francisco police are taking a new look at a cold case that involved a child who disappeared nearly 30 years ago. the renewed search sent officers to the haight-ashbury neighborhood. they are searching around a house on masonic avenue near page street there. and cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is on the scene with what neighbors remember about the time kevin collins went missing. >> reporter: good morning. there were some bones found in the duplex behind me. they are animal bones but further analysis is necessary. 10-year-old kevin collins was seen a block from here on the way home from school in 1984. witnesses say he was pushed into a car with two teenagers. police aren't saying why they have renewed their search for kevin but we do know cadaver dogs found bones under the concrete floor of the garage in the duplex. police say a man who lived in the house at the time matched the description of a man seen talking to kevin. that person has since died. but we spoke to a neighbor who knew the two men who lived here back in '84. >
if you are heading into san francisco into the east bay towards the pay gates, so far no metering lights. actually the delays are not really that bad for this time of the morning anyway. usually it's a little farther stacked up at least in the outer cash lanes. only a few minutes to get on the bay bridge. traffic is light across the stretch. you can get by this accident at westbound 237 at 101. no problems. milpitas and sunnyvale still in the green 7 minutes in those westbound lanes. we are watching this accident just cleared to the right-hand shoulder in san jose. northbound 101 approaching old oakland road. there are a few brake lights though. tends to get busy any way around this time of the morning. just a heads up. more of a visual distraction. back to you guys. >>> president obama is losing yet another member of his cabinet. the interior secretary ken salazar is ste down. according to the the "denver post" he is leaving the administration to spend more time with his family in colorado. secretary of state hillary clinton, defense secret
bridge traffic so far flowing nicely out of marin county towards san francisco. the nimitz 880 in oakland, they wrapped up roadwork. so all roads are open in hayward and downtown. >>> surveillance video captured a man trying to kidnap a 13- year-old girl in san jose. the teenager fought hard and broke free. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is at the san jose police department with more on this investigation. cate. >> reporter: good morning. officers at the san jose police department are hoping this new surveillance video can lead to the arrest of the suspect. >> we slowed it down to get a closer look. first a victim wearing white gets snatched from behind. dragged into a dark driveway. police say the 13-year-old screamed and fought back. a few seconds later she broke free and ran down the street. police released this sketch of the suspect. this happened last friday morning on 33rd and saint james. officers commended the bill for putting up the fight. >> it was a frightening situation and she fought back and escaped the perpetrator. >> officers s

warmer. 40s in san francisco right now, 44. but fairfield in the upper 20s now, only 28 there and still below freezing as well in napa. oakland right now low 40s. concord coming in slightly above freezing at 35. the national weather service kept the freeze warnings and frost advisories in effect for much of the bay area. it's going to be cold inland, up in the north bay and in the east bay interior valleys and frost advisories right around the bay. so temperatures could reach into the low 20s or upper 20s to low 30s. still could continue to dip closer to sunrise and if the winds continue to die down. forecasted highs by this afternoon we are expected to see upper 40s to low 50s once again struggling to get into the 50-degree reading mark. otherwise, over the next several days we have another cold morning on tap for tomorrow. in fact, the frost advisories have already been posted for tomorrow morning. and then sunday a ridge of high pressure builds. we have a slight warming trend beginning for next week. and plenty of sunshine and clea
